This guitar preamp features two independent channels: Clean and Drive. It uses the newly developed D-Torsion Core technology, providing sensitive response to picking nuances. The Dynamic knob allows you to adjust the responsiveness to picking strength. It also features an effects loop and tuner output, making it the core of any pedal system.

■ADA, which made a name for itself with the MP-1 guitar preamp in the '90s, has released the APP-1, a new pedal-type preamp. The MP-1 was a favorite of countless guitarists, including Paul Gilbert. ADA, which revolutionized the '90s by allowing tube preamps to be controlled via MIDI, is revolutionizing it again in 2012 with the APP-1.
■The APP-1 is a palm-sized pedal, yet boasts a full 2-channel design, with each channel equipped with Voicing, Dynamic, Drive, 3-band EQ, and Master. Connect a pedal-sized power amp, such as the Electro-Harmonix 22 Caliber, to the APP-1 to create an amp head inside your effects board. The APP-1 also features an effects loop and tuner jack, so everything is integrated within the board. All that's left to do is connect speakers to the power amp.
■The core of this unit is the newly developed D-Torsion Core technology. It instantly responds to string vibration, allowing you to express drive, dynamics, and tone simply through your picking, even when the DRIVE is turned up for heavy distortion. This means that even without changing the GAIN setting, playing gently produces a clean, delicate sound, while playing hard produces a loud, heavy, driven sound. Even if you need a clean sound during a song, there's no need to adjust the guitar's volume. The response to picking strength can be controlled with the Dynamic knob. All you need to do is pluck the strings as you feel. The APP-1, equipped with D-Torsion Core, will then express your intentions through your picking.
■By connecting a power amp and speakers after the APP-1, you can use it like a regular preamp.
■When using with a combo amp, connect it to the power amp input or effect return terminal.
■If your combo amp does not have the terminals mentioned above, connect it to a regular input and set the amp settings as flat as possible.
