While some active circuits can generate a distinctive noise when boosting high frequencies, Kent Armstrong preamps suppress this noise while delivering a rich, clear sound with a rich ensemble. As for the midrange, rather than artificially improving the instrument through the circuit's power, the preamp draws out the instrument's true potential, providing appropriate compensation for each playing style. This produces the best possible tone for a variety of playing styles, including fingerpicking, slap, and picking. In addition, some preamps have a powerful low-end boost, producing a powerful bass tone when used alone, but when used in a band, the lows become blurred and the volume level disrupts the ensemble. However, this Kent Armstrong preamp produces a tight, focused tone with a clear sense of pitch, while still providing ample volume. It naturally boosts the low frequencies inherent in the instrument, rather than the physical low frequencies you get from the low B or low F# of a multi-string bass. Some people shy away from instruments equipped with active circuits because they sound filtered, but these preamps are designed with the utmost emphasis on bringing out the best in the instrument, so each functions naturally, like a passive tone.
