MELLOTRON / M4000D Micro Black

The Mellotron M4000D Micro is a micro version of the Mellotron M4000D digital Mellotron, developed by Mellotron AB, based in Stockholm, Sweden. While retaining the 100 sounds and the user-friendly control panel found on the M4000D, this “Micro” version features a standard-size two-octave keyboard and has been reduced in size and weight to the absolute minimum.

While the M4000D featured a classic wooden body and wooden keyboard reminiscent of a tape-based Mellotron, the M4000D Micro features a sturdy, lightweight aluminum body and a keyboard manufactured by Fatar of Italy, making it highly portable. With its small, pure-white body that stands out on stage, the M4000D Micro will captivate audiences with high-quality, “authentic” sounds provided by Mellotron.

A micro-sized digital Mellotron that’s easy to take anywhere
The M4000D Micro is overwhelmingly smaller than other digital Mellotrons. While the sound quality remains exceptional, it retains the same intuitive operability, such as tone selection via two dials.

Despite its significantly reduced size, it features a full-size keyboard manufactured by Fatar in Italy (supporting velocity and aftertouch). The body is made of sturdy yet lightweight aluminum, achieving a size that’s highly portable and an astonishingly light weight of just 3 kg. This Mellotron can be easily set up anywhere and performs exceptionally well in any setting.

100 legendary sounds from the Mellotron and Chamberlin
We’ve carefully selected 100 legendary sounds from the vast collection of Mellotron and Chamberlin master tapes, for which Mellotron holds the copyright. Each sound has been meticulously sampled in uncompressed 24-bit format across all keys with zero compromise. The master tapes were played back on the company’s brand-new Mellotron MkVI and recorded directly as 7.5–9.0-second audio clips without looping, resulting in the world’s finest sound quality. The unit uses flash memory for file storage, eliminating tedious loading times and allowing you to switch between numerous sounds instantly.

The M4000D Micro lets you enjoy sound design using the same controls as tape-playback Mellotrons (such as the M400 or Mk VI). Just as the original could simultaneously play adjacent tracks (Track A and Track B, or Track B and Track C) depending on the tape head position, the Mellotron Micro allows you to adjust the mix balance of each track using the Mix knob before outputting the sound.

Quickly Access Desired Sounds with Favorites and Sorting
In addition to Manual Mode and List Mode—where you can assign any sound to Tracks A and B for performance—the M4000D Micro features Playlist Mode, which is ideal for live performances as it allows you to save and manage the sounds assigned to Tracks A and B all at once. In Manual Mode and List Mode, you can sort sounds by favorites, instrument model, or sound category, allowing you to easily select sounds suited to your needs.

The control panel is equipped with two TFT color LCD screens that display beautiful images. They show graphics of the instruments from which the samples were taken, as well as the currently selected parameters.
