""DARK ERA"" is a software sound source created by Eduardo Tarilonte, a producer known for his work on a variety of cinematic sound sources. It transports you to the pre-medieval Dark Ages. It features instruments and sounds associated with pagan music and ancient tribal rituals. The graceful plucking of the lyre's gut strings. The distinctive sounds of wind instruments such as bone flutes, overtone flutes, fujara, wooden lure, and war horn. Powerful percussion instruments, including the skin drum, combine the punch of leather with the low-end to not get lost in the mix. The mystical sounds of throat singing such as the khoomei. This collection also includes soundscapes with pulsating pads and textures that complement these instruments and vocals. DARK ERA's captivating sound complements previous ERA series instruments perfectly, making it ideal for Viking metal, pagan folk, and game/movie soundtracks.
The DARK ERA library consists of over 50 instruments, including rare and hard-to-find instruments. Instruments with multiple articulations can be played in real time using key switches. Wind instruments, in particular, offer a variety of playing techniques based on smooth legato. Ornamental phrases that are difficult to reproduce electronically and memorable sound effects are recorded using actual audio samples, enhancing the unique character of your music. Additionally, some instruments, particularly strings and percussion, are pre-mapped to MIDI phrases, allowing you to play in tempo sync with your project at the touch of a finger. Another notable feature of the DARK ERA library is the Vocal category. It features 24 MIDI phrases, including Inuit Vocal Rhythms, which can be triggered individually to create unique patterns. This collection features ethnic and ritualistic vocal materials, such as Throat Singing, which allows you to adjust the amount of overtones, offering a different feel from the vocals featured in previous ERA series releases. The Sound Design category also includes over 100 sound textures, which allow for complex movement of layered sounds, and grand rhythm loops that combine multiple instruments with pulse sounds. These are useful for creating moods of unease or unreality.
■Contents
- To capture the fine details of each instrument, all instruments were recorded using high-quality microphones and preamps to minimize reverberation. This allows for flexible sound shaping in your DAW and is highly compatible with other ERA series instruments.
- Layers (instruments) with multiple articulations can be switched using a key switch.
- Volume, pan, pitch, expression, color (EQ), attack time, and release time can be adjusted for each layer. Each layer has individual controls, such as the strength and speed of vibrato, the frequency of random detuning applied to the played sound, and the volume of specific articulations. Convolution reverb is also applied to each layer by default.
- Some of the Percussion, Strings, Wind, Sound Design, and Voice categories contain MIDI phrases that synchronize with the tempo of your DAW project.
- Layers in the Strings category contain round-robin samples.
- The Wind category sets smooth legato as the default articulation.
- Some layers in the Wind category contain audio samples of actual performances of ornamental phrases and sound effects (tempo synchronization with DAW projects is not supported).
- The Voice category contains sounds such as throat singing, shouts, and vocal rhythms inspired by Inuit and northern peoples. - In some layers in the Voice category, you can use the modulation wheel to adjust harmonics based on how you open your mouth.
- The Sound Design category includes over 100 sounds in total, including Epic Loop, which provides rhythmic sound support; Rhythmin Pad, which incorporates melodic and rhythmic elements to fill the gap between drums and melodic instruments; and Soundscapes, which generate atmospheric textures.
- Epic Loop layers map four variations for each main loop, fills and endings (ensemble and single hit), and pulse sounds that complement the rhythm.
- Layers in the Sound Design category can use up to 20 different sounds per layer. A dedicated Mixer screen allows you to adjust the volume and pan of each sound individually. Automation using MIDI CC and other controls allows you to create complex, dynamic textures.
