The Rhodes Mk. 1 has been one of the most popular electric pianos for over 40 years, featured on countless hit records. The Rhodes's versatile sonic range and distinctive character make it the instrument of choice for its unmistakable warmth and familiarity.
While Fender Rhodes instruments can be played directly through the line output, they are often played through an amplifier to add noise and spice to the sound. The Mark One was recorded using a MusicMan 112 RD 50 1x12. The Mark One allows for a variety of timbres, including mic and line settings.
The Mark One was recorded in a spacious recording studio through a tube amplifier, and vintage microphones were placed both close to the amplifier and in the ambient settings to capture a natural sound. To add variety to the sound, the track was recorded using three microphones: a dynamic microphone, a tube condenser microphone, and a ribbon microphone.
Floor and room microphones were also used to add depth and ambience. In addition to the microphone recordings, two line signals were also recorded: one was recorded using a high-voltage D.I. box, and the other was recorded using a Roland Dimension D analog stereo chorus.
