VO-TT (VOcal-oTT) is an intuitive, OTT-style multiband dynamics processor designed specifically for vocal mixing. With just a few adjustments, it works its magic, transforming any vocal content into a balanced, professional sound. Whether you're mixing tracks, performing live, or simply enjoying singing, VO-TT is suitable for any situation.

""OTT (Over The Top)"" is a preset for Ableton's Multiband Dynamics processor, known for making tracks bold, exciting, and overwhelming. While highly regarded by EDM producers, the original OTT has many limitations when applied to vocals.

VO-TT takes the OTT concept of expander, upward compressor, and downward compressor and adjusts them ""just right"" with five frequency bands specifically tailored for vocals. This design allows you to achieve a balanced vocal sound almost instantly, without any effort.

VO-TT operates unobtrusively in your workflow, enhancing the sound without replacing the individuality of your vocal sample. After all, you are the source of creativity for every track. With minimal adjustments, VO-TT quickly solves most vocal problems, allowing you to focus on your creative tasks.

Operating Principle
VO-TT features five frequency bands tailored to different aspects of vocal sound. Within each band, the downward compressor suppresses excessively loud peaks, the upward compressor moderately boosts quiet signals, and the expander reduces noise. These components work together to produce a professional, frequency-balanced vocal sound that stands out in the mix.

Five Frequency Bands
-Air: High frequencies such as sibilance, breathiness, and airy texture.
-Pres.: Mid-to-high frequencies that contribute to clarity, definition, and articulation.
-Clear: Midrange frequencies that provide detail, clarity, and vocal precision.
-Warm: Low-midrange frequencies that add richness, smoothness, and a full vocal tone.
-Body: Low frequencies that provide depth, fullness, and a solid foundation for vocals.

Four Processing Stages
Each frequency band features four processing stages. These stages work together to ensure that the signal in each frequency band falls within the desired dynamic range. By applying similar processing to each frequency band and balancing the output, you achieve a consistent, robust, and balanced sound across the entire spectrum.

-Expander: Attenuates the quietest sounds to reduce noise.

-Upward Compression: Boosts excessively quiet vocals to bring them back into the desired dynamic range.

-Null: No processing is applied at this stage. It acts as a boundary for the desired dynamic range, which can be customized for each frequency band.

-Downward Compression: Attenuates excessively loud vocals to bring them back into the desired dynamic range.

Suitable for all voices, just plug in and sing
VO-TT offers 12 processing ""styles"" to cover almost any use case. Selecting a style automatically adjusts many hidden parameters to suit the genre. No matter what type of vocal content you encounter, you'll quickly find a starting point for tailoring your sound.

In most cases, simply adjusting the sliders for each frequency band will achieve the ideal sound. For more detailed control, adjust Amount and Mix to choose extreme effects or apply subtle touches to slightly enhance vocals.
