・About the Modeled Source and Circuit
First introduced by Allison Research in 1971, Gain Brain was a revolutionary development in FET variable ratio limiter technology. The design was then rebuilt based on the Valley TA101 VCA, resulting in the Valley People Gain Brain II.

Gain Brain II was a solution to a common problem with dynamics processors of the time: applying compression very quickly while maintaining musicality. This was achieved through a unique gain reduction design that delivers program-dependent response. This unique limiter uses the principles of linear integration to analyze the complexity of the input waveform and vary the gain reduction response accordingly.

The essence of this design is that this complex operation can be controlled using the same familiar controls as a typical compressor: gain, ratio, attack, release, and threshold. This allows it to be easily integrated into the systems of modern engineers and producers.


How it was implemented in the plug-in:

We located some of the best-preserved analog components and painstakingly emulated each and every component to create the perfect synergy between analog sound and digital functionality. We've also faithfully reproduced the unique Release Mode switch, which toggles the release response between ""Linear"" and ""Logarithmic"" for a more musical effect.

One of the Gain Brain II's unique hidden features is its Peak Inversion Compensation circuit, which compensates for the low-end lost during heavy compression. We've painstakingly emulated every aspect of this circuit and included it in the VP BRAINIAC II, a true digital recreation of the Gain Brain II.
