■ Stradivari Violin - 'Vesuvius'
Antonio Stradivari, believed to have been born in 1644, is the most famous craftsman in the history of violin making. His innovations in proportion and shape continue to influence the present day. This violin, named Vesuvius, was the leader of the Cremona Quartet and was made in 1727, towards the end of the master's golden age.
To enjoy the sound of the Vesuvius as a solo instrument, use a Stradivari Violin.
■ Stradivari Cello - 'Stauffer'
While primarily known as a violin maker, Stradivari also crafted other stringed instruments. The Stauffer cello, crafted in 1700, is recognized as an Italian national treasure. Its beautiful, deep tone adds a sense of depth to the entire ensemble and brings perfect balance to a quartet.
To enjoy the Stauffer's sound as a solo instrument, use the Stradivari Cello.
■ Guarneri Violin - 'Prince Doria'
While Stradivari is considered the most famous violin maker, many of the world's most renowned performers and composers claim that Guarneri del Gesu is the ultimate violin maker. The second violin in the quartet is the Prince Doria, crafted in 1734.
■ Amati Viola - 'Stauffer'
Pioneer luthier Andrea Amati is widely recognized as the inventor of the modern violin. His son, Gerolamo, continued the tradition of the Cremona workshop and produced the Stauffer, a viola, the quartet's oldest instrument, in 1614.
