Like SSL's flagship Duality console, the Super9000 offers a choice of two world-class preamps. Switch between the high-headroom SuperAnalogue preamp for unparalleled transparency, or the variable VHD (Variable Harmonics Drive) for added character and saturation. Shape your tone by adjusting the second harmonic for rich, tube-like warmth or the third harmonic for a sharper, transistor-like edge. The INPUT FLIP button moves the VHD circuit from the mic input to the line input, allowing you to easily color DAW stems or line-level instruments and sources.

Variable Harmonics Drive (VHD)
Variable Harmonics Drive (VHD) was developed to provide engineers and producers with a single preamp capable of covering a wide tonal spectrum. Originally designed to complement the clean, transparent SuperAnalogue™ preamp found in Duality consoles, VHD has long been a secret weapon for engineers looking to color their sound, found in numerous SSL consoles and rackmount units.

Full Dynamics Processing
The Super 9000 features the essence of SSL's modern dynamics section, delivering ultimate control and punch. The compressor, centered around a high-performance THAT 2181A VCA, features switchable Fast Attack mode and peak detection options—features first introduced on the SL 9000 console and continued in the Duality series. It also features SSL's classic expander/gate section, incorporating variable hysteresis in the threshold and a hold control for precise gate control and downward expansion management. Additionally, the Super9000 allows you to move the dynamics section pre- or post-EQ.

Pink (292) and Black (242) EQ Circuits & High-Pass/Low-Pass Filters
The Super9000 offers a choice of two EQ types: the 292 G Series ""Pink Knob"" EQ circuit or the 242 E Series ""Black Knob"" EQ circuit. The 292's variable Q design delivers smooth, wide boosts and cuts, and its shelves feature steeper slopes and ""undershoot/overshoot"" for a more musical sound.
The 242's Q design, developed in collaboration with Sir George Martin, allows for more precise control than the 292. The Super 9000 EQ section also features two buttons: ""E Bell/G÷3"" and ""Gx3/E Bell."" In 292 mode, these buttons divide low-mid frequencies by three and multiply high-mid frequencies by three, allowing the midband to be used to target frequencies far beyond its normal range, providing incredible flexibility and range. In 242 mode, these buttons toggle the low and high bands between bell and shelving modes. In true SSL style, the EQ can be placed in the dynamics sidechain, and the high-pass (18dB/oct) and low-pass (12dB/oct) filters can be completely bypassed or routed to the input/sidechain for ultimate control.

Flexible Processing and Routing
The Super 9000 features balanced insert points for integrating external devices into the signal path. Insert positions can be adjusted from the default (immediately after the input stage) to the output stage (just before the output trim). A dedicated external sidechain (key) input, along with a sidechain link function, are also provided, ideal for using two Super 9000s in a stereo pair.

Input Flip control routes the line input to the mic preamp while simultaneously switching the rear mic connection to a line path. This provides an easy way to process line-level returns from your DAW while adding saturation/distortion processing at the mix stage without manually re-patching.

VHDとは

VHDは Variable Harmonics Driveの略で2次倍音から3次倍音の付加を連続可変でコントロールしサウンドに”カラー”をつけることができます。
豊かな真空管のような温かみを得るには2次高調波を、より鋭いトランジスタ風のエッジを加えるには3次高調波を調整し、トーンを形作ります。

48V,PAD,位相反転、HI-Z切り替えなど基本的な機能はもちろん搭載しています。

ダイナミクスセクション

SUPER9000のダイナミクスセクションはまさに9000コンソールのダイナミクスセクションを移植したものになります。
THAT 2181A VCAを中核に据えたコンプレッサーで、切り替え可能なFast Attackモードとピーク検出オプションを搭載。これはSL 9000コンソールで初導入された機能です。さらに、SSLのクラシックなエキスパンダー/ゲートセクションを搭載。スレッショルドに可変ヒステリシスを組み込み、精密なゲート制御とダウンワードエキスパンション管理のためのホールドコントロールを備えています。Super9000ではこのダイナミクスセクションをEQのPre or Postに移動可能。

フィルター＆EQセクション

ハイパス（18dB/oct）およびローパス（12dB/oct）フィルターを搭載。バイパスにすることも可能です。Dynサイドチェーンへのルーティングも可能です。
EQは4バンドパラメトリックEQ。
Super9000では292 G シリーズの「ピンクノブ」EQ 回路、または 242 E シリーズの「ブラックノブ」EQ 回路の２種類から選択可能です。

292Gシリーズピンクノブ

主に4000Gシリーズに搭載された292EQ 通称ピンクノブ。292 の可変 Q 設計はスムーズで幅広いブーストとカットを実現し、そのシェルフはより急峻なスロープと「アンダーシュート/オーバーシュート」を特徴とし、より音楽的なサウンドを提供します。

242Eシリーズ　ブラックノブ

242 のQ設計は、ジョージ・マーティン氏と共同で開発され、292 と比べるとより精密なコントロールが可能です。
1983年、ジョージ・マーティンとのコラボレーションにより、AIRスタジオに設置された最初のSSLコンソール用に開発されたEQ回路「242」。Black Knob EQとして知られるこのEQは、より広いカット＆ブーストレンジ、洗練されたコントロールレスポンスでよりタイトなローエンドコントロールとトーンの柔軟性を実現しました。

そして Super 9000 EQ セクションには、「E Bell/G÷3」および「Gx3/E Bell」という 2 つのボタンも備わっています。292 モードでは、これらのボタンにより、LMF周波数を 3 で割り、HMF周波数を 3 で乗算することができるため、通常はその標準範囲をはるかに超える周波数をターゲットとして中域バンドを使用することができ、驚異的な柔軟性と範囲を実現しています。

柔軟なルーティング

SUPER9000はREVIVAL4000と同様に柔軟なルーティングと接続を可能にします。
外部サイドチェーン入力にステレオペア使用時のダイナミクスサイドチェーンリンクも搭載しています。
バランス・インサートも備えており、ポイントは入力段直後から出力段（出力トリム直前）へ配置が可能です。
ダイナミクスをPOST EQにしたり、INPUT FLIPでLINE入力をマイクプリアンプにルーティングすると同時に、背面のMIC接続をLINE経路に切り替えます。これにより、ミックス段階でサチュレーション/ディストーション処理を施しながら、DAWからのラインレベルリターンを手動で再パッチすることなく処理することができます。
