Heir to a Modern Classic
If there's one tool that can be considered a ""once-in-a-generation"" classic, it's the Empirical Labs Distressor. Since its release in 1995, Dave Derr's Distressor circuit has been featured in instruments like the all-purpose preamp/compressor Mike-E.
Professor Punch-Knuckles is the brilliant, unconventional labor of love born from Mike-E and the Distressor.
Don't be fooled by its analytical, professorial side—this unit packs a punch that's sure to shatter your audio. It's smooth, warm, and musical, yet it packs a punch right in the gut.

Three Classic Saturation Modes
Professor Punch-Knuckles isn't just brute force.
Its sophistication lies in its three distortion/saturation modes:
・Toasty
・Crunchy
・Distress
Toasty and Crunchy are saturation and preamp distortion inspired by Mike-E.
Distress is based on the Distressor and Mike-E's compressor circuit.
The intuitive interface lets you quickly achieve anything from warm vintage tones to light breakup and the signature distortion/compression of the Distressor.

Tone Shaping
Additional options are available to shape your sound, making it a punch in the gut rather than a slap in the face.
The Mode switch, featuring Empirical Labs' proprietary Emphasis Filters, lets you easily add distinctive trance and tape sounds, maintaining a refined, yet rugged sound.
