Pianoverse Hamburg Grand S274 captures the Steinway Hamburg D-274, a 274cm-deep concert grand piano manufactured by Steinway & Sons in Germany in 1958, using IK Multimedia's proprietary robotic deep multi-sampling technology. Each Steinway Hamburg D-274 is handcrafted, taking over a year to complete, from wood selection to string voicing. Its commitment to quality has captivated performers around the world for many years, from Sergei Rachmaninoff to Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, Alfred Brendel, Mitsuko Uchida, Arthur Rubinstein, Krystian Zimmermann, Marc-André Hamelin, Lang Lang, Emmanuel Ax, Hélène Grimaud, and Leif Ove Andsnes.
To create the Hamburg Grand S274, the IK Multimedia development team visited the Officine Meccaniche studios in Milan, Italy, where a pristine 1958 Steinway Hamburg D-274 blended perfectly with its surroundings. Recording used the same preamps as the rest of the Pianoverse collection, capturing the magic of the original instrument without EQ or compression. Close-micing was done with a pair of DPA 4011s, and room acoustics were captured with a pair of Coles 4038s in a Blumlein configuration. The results are impressive, fully capturing the unique tone and pedal resonance of the Hamburg-made D-274.
Adjustable to Suit Your Song and Desired Tone
Pianoverse offers detailed performance controls to help you tailor the sound to your song and desired tone.
Settings previously thought possible only with physical modeling sound sources, such as release, hammer noise, pedal noise, string resonance, lid opening and closing, and tone brightness, are all adjustable. Velocity offset and curve adjustments are also available.
Advanced pedal techniques, such as half-pedaling, catch pedaling, and una corda, are also supported.
Pianoverse delivers the optimal piano sound and playing feel for any genre, including classical, jazz, pop, and Latin.
A cutting-edge engine that maximizes expressive power
A full range of essential studio tools for sound shaping and mixing are also included.
The instrument and room microphone pairs each feature EQ and compression with multiple modes.
The final master channel features EQ, a VCA-style limiter, a WIDTH control for adjusting the stereo image, and a FLIP switch for switching between player and audience perspectives.
Powerful Creative Effects
In addition to the spatial generator, Pianoverse features 12 new creative effects.
These effects range from spatial effects to classic studio effects, and three can be used simultaneously. The effect slots consist of one send effect and two insert effects. Four modulation sources (two envelopes and two LFOs) can be used to modulate the parameters of these three slot effects. Combining effects and modulation allows for more aggressive sound design than is possible with other piano sound modules.
