Phil Collins made history with the explosive drum sound he recorded on his global hit ""In the Air Tonight."" The distinctive reverberation of the recording room's stone walls, combined with the heavily compressed sound, is arguably one of the defining drum sounds of the '80s. Used on many hits, including Peter Gabriel's ""Intruder,"" the combination of heavy reverb and massive compression has had a profound impact on music ever since.
To recreate that magical sound at their home studio, Fisher Lane Farm in the UK, Genesis, the progressive rock band featuring Phil Collins, commissioned original engineer Hugh Padgham to build a stone room with the same specifications as Townhouse Studios, where that iconic drum sound was created. Unfortunately, these two studios no longer exist, but IK was granted exclusive permission to visit Fisher Lane Farm before the reverberation is lost forever.
The Farm Stone Room has been created to preserve the reverberation of this rare live room for future generations.
