Officially licensed by 4ms, SMR for Modular can process audio like a classic filter bank, create marimba-like sounds by playing or striking, vocode, remix tracks, harmonize, output spectral data, quantize other oscillators to match the musical scale, and much more. By connecting it to Modular, the possibilities are endless.

4ms SMR provides six resonant bandpass filters, each fixed to one of the 12 musical scales displayed on the LED ring in the center of the unit.
Any of the six filters can be easily swept along the current scale, either manually or via CV. Any scale can be specified, from Western scales to irregular tunings, esoteric gamelan, and even microtonal scales.

The result
Use the SMR as an oscillator bank for additive synthesis to create beautiful, moving chord structures.

It can also be used as a vocoder, phaser, quantizer, stereo band expansion tool, CV source/arpeggiator/sequencer, remix tool for extracting triggers from recorded sources, drum synthesizer (using pulses triggered by different rhythms on odd and even channels), the basis for multiband compressor patches, or simply as a powerful effect.

While it may seem intimidating, the 4ms SMR includes 75 new presets covering the above situations, making it a great starting point for your patch. And its low CPU load means you can add many SMR units to your patch.
