The addition of Downward and Expansion modes has made the compressor extremely versatile. In addition to traditional downward compression (reducing the volume of signals that exceed a common threshold), it can also be used for upward compression, downward expansion, and upward expansion. It can be used as a gate, expander, limiter, vocal compressor, noiser, denoiser, and various other dynamic shapers.
It also features sidechain input and MID/SIDE mode, making it useful for mastering. You can also use the filtering function to select compression that responds only to bass hits, for example.
