BFD Modern Retro is an expansion pack for BFD3, BFD Eco, and BFD2 featuring two kits evoking the sounds of the 1990s and early 2000s. Recorded and produced by Chocolate Audio (who also produced BFD Imperial Drums), this pack captures a wide variety of mic channels and beater types, capturing every detail and allowing you to recreate expressive drum sounds with a variety of tones.
The 72 pieces included include two kits: a 1997 Sonor Designer and a late-'90s Tama Starclassic; Ludwig and Tama snares; and a collection of cymbals from Zildjian, Ufip, Paiste, Turkish, and Sabian. Hot rod and brush sounds are also included, and the kick drum is captured with plastic and felt beaters using a whopping four different direct microphones. The rich ambience of the recording room is also captured using two sets of overhead and room microphones.
