8 Bit Kit is a dedicated sound expansion for BFD3, BFD Eco, and BFD2. It includes a wide variety of sounds, from classic drum machines, ethnic percussion instruments like bongos and darbukas, kitchen utensils, custom-made snares, and even boxing gongs. It also includes sounds recorded directly from vintage analog drum machines from the 70s and 80s.

These sounds were captured at 24 ibt, 44.1 kHz quality using a strange yet wonderful selection of microphones. Recorded by Husky Heskals of 8 Bit Audio Productions, a protégé of Chad Blake and producer of Tom Waits, Fantomas, Joe Henry, and The Wallflowers.

The philosophy behind 8 Bit Kit is to deliver stunning, never-before-heard sounds. A detuned kick drum, a hit created with chain wrapped around a paint roller, a snare modified with calfskin and Kevlar heads, and a cracked hi-hat with a space-distorting texture are just a few examples. Bongos, hand drums, tambourines, claps, and jumbled percussion are all included alongside vintage drum machines. Included are both ""dry"" sounds recorded from hardware line signals and sounds recorded through custom PA speakers in a resonant room. Combining these sounds will add punch to your drum tracks. These ""amplified"" versions bring new textures to the mix. The microphones used to record 8 Bit Kit are as strange as the drums themselves, including a parabolic spy mic, a Calrec Soundfield, and a microphone attached directly to a Gramophone. The tight, intimate space of Los Angeles' Sound Factory, where it was recorded, sounds great on its own, but also has a character that lends itself well to the larger room sounds of other BFD libraries.
