The BBC Radiophonic Workshop was the birthplace of ""impossible sounds"" for 40 years.

Founded in 1958 by the British public broadcaster BBC to create sound effects and new music for radio and television, the BBC Radiophonic Workshop was known for its futuristic and original sound creations, utilizing tape editing and sound synthesis, even before synthesizers became widespread.

The BBC Radiophonic Workshop, which brought to life numerous BBC shows, including Doctor Who, The Goon Show, and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, is a melting pot of imagination. Its echoing spaces were a veritable workshop where sonic alchemy was woven.

Now, this rich legacy is brought back to life with renewed vigor. The essence of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop is unleashed for the first time, opening the doors to its spiritual home, London's Maida Vale Studios.

BBC RADIOPHONIC WORKSHOP features timeless melodies of vintage synthesizer sounds, ethereal tape loops, and priceless archives etched in history, as well as new sonic inspirations from the BBC Radiophonic Workshop's heirs.
