A 37-key alto harmonica with a wooden cover. Walnut is used, which is one of the three most precious woods in the world for its beauty. The change in texture that occurs over time is also attractive. We aimed for a soft tone that stands out clearly but also harmonizes with other instruments in music that requires delicate sound expression, such as classical, musette, and jazz.

The W-37 series is a wooden cover model developed based on the voices of artists, with a different personality from previous melodica models. We aimed for a soft tone that harmonizes with other instruments even in songs that require delicate sound expression, such as classical, musette, and jazz, and created a soft tone that is assertive yet soft.

The appeal of the Kenhamo is its presence-filled tone that does not get lost in other instruments, but the W-37C aims for a soft tone that harmonizes with other instruments even in songs that require delicate sound expression. Wood has the effect of absorbing and suppressing high-pitched overtones*, which results in a rounded tone, so we made the "cover", which is a major factor in determining the sound creation of the Kenhamo, out of wood. We used "walnut", which is one of the three most famous woods in the world due to its beauty. The change in texture over time is also attractive.

* Overtones are sounds that are heard at the same time as a single note (fundamental tone), and the impression of the sound changes depending on the content of the overtones included.

The more overtones there are, the brighter and more expansive the tone will sound, but if there are many high-frequency overtones, the tone may sound harsh and unpleasant.

■ A sense of unity with the instrument leads to greater expressiveness
All wooden parts are handmade. The gentle warmth of the wood and the carefully finished surface have a smooth texture, so your fingers can move very smoothly and you can play comfortably. In addition, a shoulder strap can be attached, allowing for more freedom in playing. The sense of unity with the instrument allows you to focus on expressing yourself without feeling stress while playing.

The natural colors, luster, and patterns of walnut, rosewood, and beech are the beauty of this instrument. While it has its own unique presence, it also harmonizes beautifully with string instruments such as violins and cellos. The rarity of not having two of them the same is also the appeal of natural materials.

The previous model "W-37" won the Good Design Award at the GOOD DESIGN AWARD 2017. It was praised for its attractive wooden finish and high level of perfection as an instrument that pursues tone.
