When the carrier/control input is near 0V, the balanced modulator circuit is off, so it can be used as a typical VCA. The STRENGTH knob has two functions: when nothing is connected to the carrier/control input, it is used to control the level of the audio signal. When a modulation source is input to the carrier/control input, it functions as an attenuator.

It also has a summing output that outputs the sum of each channel, so it can be used as a mixer that can be controlled with CV. By connecting another modDemix or Optomix to the AUX input, it can also be used as a larger signal processor or mixer.
