Steampipe is a full-fledged physical modelling synthesizer developed in close collaboration between Erica Synths and 112dB.com in the Netherlands.

Steampipe is an 8-voice polyphonic synthesizer that does not use traditional oscillators. Instead, it is tuned to mimic the way wind and string instruments are produced, creating a wide variety of sounds. Steampipe is especially optimized for playing with wind MIDI controllers, but also works very well with regular MIDI keyboards. The harmonics produced are very organic and rich, and there are many great presets with great sounds.

Steampipe is very versatile and allows for detailed sonic exploration. Its sound images range from soft cloud-like sounds to amusement park organs, railway industrial horns, and even grandiose, otherworldly ambiences. With detailed control over multiple physical modeling parameters, Steampipe can generate very organic emulations of real instruments. But it goes beyond that and goes beyond traditional ranges and dynamics. Imagine what a flute or clarinet would sound like at C1 or C7!
