multi/poly is a synthesizer that combines various functions with the original Mono/Poly, and possesses the incredible analog sound that is unique to digital.
■Stunning analog sound that can only be achieved with digital technology
The new multi/poly is the first product to use KORG's next-generation analog modeling technology, and it is based on the legendary combination of big sound and experimental functions derived from modular. It's like a modular system in a compact package, and it's an endless playground for synth players and sound designers. Create hardware mashups with a wide selection of East Coast, West Coast, and wavetable oscillators and newly modeled filters. Freely transform your synth sounds with various envelope, VCA, and portamento circuit models. Virtual voice cards add analog-like variability and create organic timbral variations. Layer Rotate triggers a new program every time you press a key. In addition, various changes are possible with Kaoss Physics, Motion Sequencing 2.0, modulation, and more.
■Next-generation analog modeling
The multi/poly features newly designed incredible sounding filters and oscillators, but the evolution of analog modeling goes even deeper. The oscillators, filters, envelopes, LFOs and portamento circuits are modeled after variations of analog hardware components. As a result, each has a slightly different character, producing a natural and rich timbre. This variation can be increased or decreased for each sound to your liking.
■Oscillators
The multi/poly has four oscillators per program, delivering incredibly thick and complex tones. Each oscillator can be used with classic, digital or waveshaper oscillator types. Classic models traditional analog synth oscillators, resulting in an incredibly faithful and thick sound. Among the 11 waveforms are not only single waveforms but also dual waveforms, allowing you to model synths that generate multiple waveforms at once. The panel knobs control pulse width, triangle wave slope, dual waveform blending and more.
■Dual modeling filters
All of the filters in the multi/poly have been newly designed, including a great set of vintage filters with pleasant saturation. Let's start with five different 4-pole self-oscillating models. "M/Poly" offers the powerful and sweet sound of the original Mono/Poly. "Mini" is the ladder filter of America's beloved mono synth, reducing low-frequency resonance, which is important for creating classic bass sounds. "Pro" is from the first programmable polyphonic synthesizer, featuring a strong resonant sweep. Finally, "Ladder HP" and "Ladder BP" are 4-pole self-oscillating high-pass and band-pass filters, respectively.
■Layer Rotate
The multi/poly has four layers, each containing a program. Naturally, you can create layered sounds, velocity splits, and keyboard splits. Inspired by the paraphonic mode of the original Mono/Poly, which cycles through the four oscillators, Layer Rotate adds new possibilities: flexible round robins across programs.
■Abundant Controls and Modulation
Many knobs and controllers invite you to explore the sounds. Oscillators, filters, envelopes, LFOs and effects are at your fingertips with dedicated front panel controls. Four programmable Mod knobs are customized to get the most out of every sound. You can also use the knobs to play in real time or save the result as a new sound. The Hold button allows you to keep a note or chord going indefinitely while you manipulate the front panel controls or play other gear.
■Motion Sequencing 2.0
Motion Sequencing 2.0 is an evolution of the wavestate's Wave Sequencing 2.0. Timing, pitch, shape and four sets of step sequence values are separated into "lanes", each with its own loop start and loop end, adding a deeper, more customizable level of recording phrasing and modulation.
■Kaoss Physics
Kaoss Physics models the way a ball rolls across a surface or bounces off a wall. You can start the ball by flicking your finger on the x/y pad, or you can automatically launch the ball using a trigger source such as a gate + damper. You can also control the ball directly by holding your finger over the pad. Four modulation signals are generated depending on the position of the ball, and you can control the modulation destination of your choice, such as the X and Y position, the distance from the center, and the angle relative to the X axis. This method of applying automatic modulation is very unique, and realizes modulation that is constantly evolving.
