The marimba and xylophone are the undisputed big two of wooden melodic percussive instruments, as evidenced by soundtracks and classical arrangements from pop and rock to hip-hip and electronic dance music.

The marimba's dark, rich, plump, earthy, muscular sound is ideal for the arpeggios and leads of EDM tracks, as well as the dramatic atmosphere of movies. Similarly, a brighter, drier xylophone tone with more emphasis can be a great, piercing melodic voice in any context.

Recorded for everything from serious classical composition to general songwriting needs, the two instruments were captured using a variety of microphones in Galaxy Studios' famous 330 square meter main hall. In addition to generously selected close mics placed to immediately pick up the attack and body of each instrument, several mics were placed around the instruments to accommodate the full surround sound of up to 5.0 systems. Additionally, the marimba was also recorded in a smaller Studio 1 room for a more intimate recording of the same instrument.

In addition to instruments, EKX - MELODIC PERCUSSION WOOD also includes a unique MIDI basic library and a wide collection of presets showcasing sound and microphone options, from scaled-down to gigantic.
