The DXG (Dual Stereo Gate) module is a dual stereo low pass gate/mixer. It is based on Make Noise's existing mixing modules QMMG, Optomix, RxMx, Dynamix, and LxD, and is specialized for mixing stereo signals.
The DXG (Dual Stereo Gate) module is a dual stereo low-pass gate/mixer. It follows in the footsteps of Make Noise's existing mixing modules QMMG, Optomix, RxMx, Dynamix, and LxD. Unlike its predecessors, however, the DXG is specialized for mixing stereo signals. This makes it an important addition to modular systems that use Make Noise stereo modules such as XPO, QPAS, Morphagene, Mimeophon, Spectraphon, and other stereo modules.
The DXG is characterized by a new low-pass gate circuit that does not use bactrol. This circuit is 100% analog, and the output from it has been tuned for many months to meet or exceed the trust and expectations that Make Noise has built over the years with the bactrol low-pass gates. The DXG is a completely new approach, implementing the gentle one-pole filtering of a low-pass gate in a better way, while at the same time emulating the slow decay and tail characteristic of a low-pass gate using a Vactrol.
This new circuit allows for the consistency of left and right response needed for versatile stereo use, while keeping the module small and affordable, making it a key part of any modular system.
The DXG's inputs and outputs are all stereo, unlike Make Noise's previous low-pass gates. Each pair of stereo inputs is internally wired, so a mono signal can be fed into the left input and a copy sent to both the left and right outputs. The aux inputs are also stereo pairs with internal wiring for mono signals, so you can use the DXG as a simple 3-channel stereo mixer, with one or two of the channels used as VCAs for dynamics control and note event generation. The aux inputs can be used for larger panned mixes with additional DXG modules or X-PAN, Optomix, modDemix, etc.
・Make Noise's first stereo low pass gate
・Despite being a non-vactor design, it outputs a classic low pass gate sound, and has the balance and consistency required for true stereo
・Fully stereo I/O specification that makes it easy to incorporate stereo modular synths
・All left inputs are internally wired, and can also be used with mono signals
・STRIKE input that can trigger the low pass gate with a gate signal
・Stereo AUX IN that allows multiple units to be chained to create larger mixes
・Can be used in conjunction with distributed mix consoles such as X-PAN, Optomix, and XOH
・Works well with modules such as XPO, QPAS, Morphagene, Mimephon, and Spectraphon
