The T-Komp 500 is an API500 format monaural compressor with a unique design that brings the ratio curve of a variable mu compressor to modern recording. The ratio is level dependent, so as the input level increases the compression ratio increases. This is a compressor design that offers many possibilities.

For more flexible use, T-Komp is equipped with two ratio ranges. A range of up to 20:1 is perfect for smashing instruments, especially drum tracks, and a narrower range of up to 2:1 is perfect for bass compressors.

The detection speed of T-Komp's RMS detector can be set using five controls named Timing controls. The fourth is the slowest, and this is the same setting as the 160-VU compressor. From there, you can gradually increase the speed up to the first setting. The fifth setting is program-dependent adaptive mode. In this mode, the RMS detector works faster for fast signals and slower for slow signals to prevent unwanted low frequencies.
