Halo Downmix is a creative solution for accurately downmixing 7.1-channel or 5.1-channel surround sound material such as movie soundtracks.
Standard downmixing tools included with DAWs can sometimes obscure dialog and unbalance low-frequency energy when downmixing material with ambient added to the rear channels.
Halo Downmix allows relative levels, time signatures, and direct/ambient sound balancing to be adjusted during the downmix process, allowing the generation of stereo downmixes that are optimal for the material. Normal downmixing is done by multiplying the surround output by a standard downmix factor, but processing with a DAW-supplied downmixer can produce undesired results if the upmixing process used to create the surround tracks was done using traditional rules of thumb or some upmix plug-ins. The result can be unwanted.
By using Halo Downmix to compensate for the blurred sound of artificial reverb added to the rear channels and the equally artificial delays before downmixing, a clear downmix can be generated that avoids these problems.
