EKX - MELLOTOON is an EKX expansion sound source that contains the Mellotron, a keyboard instrument invented in the early 1960s.

The “Mellotron” is a keyboard instrument that was invented in the early 1960s. It has a unique sound generation mechanism in which pressing a key plays back a magnetic tape that has the sound of the instrument recorded on it and releasing a key stops playback and rewinds the tape. This instrument, which contains recordings of various instruments such as pianos, strings, flutes, and brass, can be said to be the prototype of the playback sampler. Due to its unique sound generation mechanism, the sound is unstable and lo-fi. Still, it is now a familiar keyboard instrument with a unique flavor to composers and keyboard players around the world, thanks to its use by world-famous artists such as the Beatles, Moody Blues, and King Crimson.

The 'EKX - MELLOTOON' contains the following signal chain presets based on the M400 Mellotron sound (a blend of direct and amplified signals) and the high-quality effects of OVERLOUD (built into the EZKEYS)

Recorder: Original Mellotron sound. Tape delay and plate reverb can be adjusted on the interface.
Vibes: Original Mellotron sound. Tape delay and plate reverb can be adjusted on the interface.
Piano: Original Mellotron sound. Tape delay and plate reverb can be adjusted on the interface.
Solo Flute: Original Mellotron sound. Tape delay and plate reverb can be adjusted on the interface.
Viola: Original Mellotron sound. Presence and brilliance can be cut/boosted, and plate reverb can be adjusted on the interface.
Cello: Original Mellotron sound. Presence and brilliance can be cut/boosted, and plate reverb can be adjusted on the interface.
3 Violins: Original Mellotron sound. Presence and brilliance cut/boost and plate reverb can be adjusted on the interface.
3 Violins at low speed: “3 Violins” recorded at low speed (50%). High-frequency cut/boost and plate reverb can be adjusted on the interface.
16 Violins: Original Mellotron sound. High-frequency cut/boost and plate reverb can be adjusted on the interface.
String Section: Original Mellotron sound. High-frequency cut/boost and plate reverb can be adjusted on the interface.
MK II Brass: Original Mellotron sound. Tape delay and plate reverb can be adjusted on the interface.
MK II Brass LowSpeed: “MK II Brass” was recorded at low speed (50%). The interface allows you to adjust the tape delay and plate reverb.
Mixed Brass: Original Mellotron sound. Tape delay and plate reverb can be adjusted on the interface.
Boys Choir: Original Mellotron sound. Plate reverb can be adjusted on the interface, and low and high frequency can be cut/boosted.
8 Voices: Original Mellotron sound. Plate reverb can be adjusted on the interface, and low and high-frequency cuts/boosts are possible.
Beyond: A mix of “Recorder”, “Solo Flute”, “MK II Brass” and “MK II Low Speed”. Dual phasing and panning, high-pass filter, and plate reverb can be adjusted on the interface.
Voice of Les: A mix of “Boys Choir” and “8 Voices sounds”. On the interface, you can adjust the Leslie speaker, high-pass filter, and plate reverb.
Clouds: A mix of “Recorder”, “Solo Flute”, and “Viola”. On the interface, you can adjust the tremolo and plate reverb.
Gates Below: A mix of “Piano”, “Vibes” and “MK II Brass Low Speed”. The octave generator can be adjusted up/down, and the plate reverb can be adjusted.
Phased Futures: A mix of “Viola”, “Cello”, “Vibes” and “Brass”. The phaser, tape delay, low and high pass filters, and plate reverb can be adjusted on the interface.
ReEvolution: A soft psychedelic organ sound based on flute and brass
Sun Moon Wah: A reverb loop and vib pad based on flute
Permafrost: A grand, modern pad sound based on strings
Flow Motion: A grand, modern pad sound based on “Pian,” “Vibes,” and “Brass
