The C42 is an all-purpose condenser microphone that can be used not only for spot miking, but also for general acoustic instruments, guitar amps, drums, drum overheads, one-point recording of chorus ensembles and hall concerts, special sound effects, and vocals.

The amplifier, which is the heart of the C42, is a fully balanced discrete class A operating circuit using selected FETs and has OTL specifications.

Output impedance is low enough that even long cable runs do not add any extra color to the sound.
The electronic circuit is made to match P48-compliant full-spec phantom power, but it is now possible to use phantoms as low as 24V, although there are some limitations on maximum sound pressure.
In addition, the stainless steel body is precisely machined and is designed to withstand years of use.
