Hollywood Fantasy Percussion is a collection of mystical percussion instruments that complement epic soundtracks, offering a full range of instruments from pleasant shakers to roaring sounds. It is suitable for all orchestral scores, but it shines even more when combined with other Hollywood Fantasy series. Although there are many drum libraries on the market, Fantasy Percussion is the first percussion library ever designed specifically for epic fantasy soundtracks, and it delivers a quality and unique world view like never before.
When composing fantasy music, there are many situations where conventional percussion instruments are not enough. Whether it's a fiery blacksmith's forge, a royal festival, or a traditional folk festival, you need percussion that not only enhances the drama of the scene, but also blends perfectly into the world you are creating. Each instrument in Fantasy Percussion instruments have been selected to be able to respond to any imaginable setting, and no matter what scoring task you have, it contains all the tools to not only emphasize the drama on screen, but also to envelop the audio audience in a completely new and unique fantasy world.
・3 BODHRANS
If you've ever listened to Celtic folk music, you'll be familiar with the rich tones of the bodhrán. A small hand-held drum, the bodhrán is typically played with a double-sided mallet or by hand, and its gentle yet solid pulse adds excitement to the music. Check out how this folk drum adds excitement to the scores of Braveheart and Titanic!
3 Grand Cassa
The Fantasy Percussion library includes a concert bass drum that can be used to expand the low range of an orchestra. Rather than the rounded, mellow mallet hits found in traditional orchestral performances, the Grand Cassa delivers full-bodied accents with a wider range of impact.
3 Large Taiko
As you probably don't need us to explain, the taiko drum is very familiar to us Japanese, and it is now omnipresent in video games and film music around the world. A close ensemble was recorded to reproduce the unique, brilliant low-pitched sound of the taiko drum on your desktop. You can experience its wonderful tone and power in countless soundtracks, such as “Okami” and “The Last Samurai”.
・270kg+ long-bodied taiko ensemble
The huge long-bodied taiko drums used in traditional arts such as Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples, festivals and Kabuki have a completely different character to other taiko drums used in ceremonies and Shinto rituals. The long-bodied taiko ensemble will shine especially in the relaxed, quiet passages where it is less likely to compete with the rest of the orchestra.
CENG CENG
These Balinese cymbals, which are mainly used in gamelan, have a loud, resonant character that is perfect for the ambience of the background. They are much softer than Western cymbals, and work wonderfully to expand the palette of metal percussion.
Crotales
Small chromatic cymbals with a glockenspiel or wind chime-like character, they are a great way to color contrast with wind and string instruments, and are ideal for sustaining a gentle, majestic melody. James Horner used crotales effectively in the 1990s movie “Sneakers”.
Cymbal & Gong Ensemble
A collection of metal percussion instruments that cover a wide range of playing techniques, including hits and rolls. This diverse collection includes all shapes and sizes (literally) that you can use to make your fantasy orchestra shine.
Chafchas (GOATNAIL SHAKER)
A unique shaker made from the hoof shavings collected by Andean natives when milking goats. It produces a fragile, dry rattling sound that is ideal for emphasizing the mystical rituals of South American culture.
Goat Hooves and Ceng Ceng
This is a mix of the above-mentioned instruments, designed with an emphasis on ease of performance and playability, so that various tones can be quickly introduced into the score. It can be used as a starting point for production when you need a little inspiration to move your ideas forward.
・KRAKEB
A North African castanet with a sound similar to a chen-chen, but with a rounder tone and a distinctive low pitch. The hollow interior of the casing gives this percussion instrument a completely different floating, soft feel to other cymbals.
Metal shakers
These shakers provide a soft, diffuse sound that is ideal for gently driving a rhythm. Without the splashiness of cymbals, their airy feel makes them the perfect high-end complement to a drum ensemble, and they can be used as an accent layer in arrangements.
NAGARA RUB FX
In a situation where deep atonal instruments color the dark night, you will arrive at this sound that resembles a rubbed Indian drum. This instrument, which is a staple at festivals and temples, is evocative and mysterious, and is the perfect tool for expanding your imagination.
NAGARA & ASHIKO
We offer a combination of multiple ethnic drums that evoke a variety of fantasies, such as festivals, street performances, and ceremonies. We have a collection of hits, rolls, rim taps, etc., to create your own powerful drum ensemble. Nagara is often used in the popular dance form Ghoomar, which appears frequently in the 2018 film Padmaavat.
Orchestral Bell Ensemble
Chimes are also well-suited for transcribing the sound of church bells in a castle town or joyous ceremonies that require a dignified production, but EastWest has also included chimes in these collections to round them out and harmonize them with more common orchestras.
ORCHESTRAL METALLURGY
This collection provides a massive industrial sound, with large metal objects scraped, struck and beaten. If you need the sound of a distant world's blacksmith shop or assembly line, this collection is perfect.
Snare Ensemble
Fantasy Percussion Suites are not complete without the sound of a traditional drum corps. When a mighty army marches to battle, this snare ensemble is an essential tool for conveying the grandeur and scale necessary to bring the scene to life.
Toms
With a deeper, rounder sound comparable to a snare ensemble, it creates a powerful layer of low-mid range sound, giving the drum core even more power.
