The bx_opto Pedal is a slimmer and more efficient version of the existing bx_opto.
You get the charismatic compression of bx_opto with a simpler interface and guitar pedal feel.
The result of meticulously modeling the light-dependent circuitry of multiple optical compressors, bx_opto is transformed into a wild little dynamics processor that produces sounds with more character than any analog optical compressor could ever achieve.
In addition to providing tone-enhancing compression, the bx_opto Pedal can also be used as a gain pedal; by adjusting the Density and Level Trim controls, you can add the gain and color you need.
Most optical compressors are appreciated for their musical, program-dependent character, produced by light-dependent circuitry in the sidechain. This compressor gives the user the ability to adjust the effect of this character by introducing an independent resistor circuit that allows some control over the compression envelope.
Brainworx decided to take a different approach to adjusting this compression envelope when modeling the bx_opto and bx_opto Pedal.
The physical constant of the modeled LDR (Light Dependent Resistor) is influenced by a very realistic compressor constant, but there is no independent envelope circuit.
This constant is directly manipulated by the "Speed" parameter of the plug-in.
This gives a completely different approach to sound character that cannot be reproduced by "real optical compressors".
The "Speed" parameter is directly controlled by the plug-in's "Speed" parameter, which cannot be reproduced by "real optical compressors.
