Lindell Audio's PEX-500 hardware unit is a mono transformer-coupled passive Pultec-style equalizer.
Its all-discrete design is based on Lindell Audio's hybrid amplifiers, which provide silky smooth high end and punchy low end of up to 15 decibels.
The PEX-500 is primarily used to add clarity to vocals, a guttural impact to bass growls, or a vintage sheen to acoustic guitars.

Pultec's low-end trick tightens up the bass.
One of the best features of the PEX-500 is its ability to boost and cut the same frequencies. The actual filter shape applied is like boosting the low shelf and scooping just above it.
If you want to tighten up the low end of a kick drum or bass track, boosting and cutting around 30-100Hz will work like magic; don't hesitate to turn the knob to get the most out of the PEX-500.

Faithful emulation and additional features
The PEX-500 plug-in is a faithful emulation, but with features unique to plug-ins, such as stereo operation, Mid/Side matrix, and additional selection of High Boost frequencies.
It also features an Analog button that brings noise, hum, and transformer saturation into the signal. For level matching of input signals and accurate comparison of A/B processing, a dedicated input pad control for the plug-in version of PEX-500 is built in.
