Optocompressor loaded with a wide variety of tones
bx_opto combines some of the best that Brainworx has learned from optical circuit modeling of the world's most beloved compressors like the Shadow Hills Mastering Compressor, elysia alpha compressor, and Millennia TCL-2. It was created by combining some of the coloring, character, and functionality learned from some of the world's most beloved compressors like the elysia alpha compressor and Millennia TCL-2.
Rather than recreate a hardware product in software, bx_opto has taken aspects and anomalies of the legendary analog circuit and created a "software compressor" that makes you want to buy it in hardware.
Conventional optocompressors respond differently to different input signals and are often said to be "program dependent. For example, an optocompressor will respond differently to a long loud part in a song than to a short loud hit in a quiet part. In the case of the optocompressor, everything is moving constantly and yet comfortably to the ear. The circuit's musical properties have made it a favorite of professional engineers for decades.
Next Generation Optocompression
In addition to its musicality, bx_opto opens up new sonic possibilities with its variable speed knob, which simulates the change in speed at which an optocompressor's photocell reacts to light. This allows the user to control the release time to form transients that would not be possible with a hardware optocompressor.
Most opto-compressors are valued for the musical, program-dependent "character" they bring about due to light-dependent side-chain circuit anomalies. The general speed of compression is solidified by the operation of the LDR (Light Dependent Resistor).
The hardware optocompressor, however, allows the user to adjust this characteristic only by introducing a separate resistor circuit that allows some control over the compression envelope.
After intense experimentation and listening, Brainworx discovered a way to adjust the compression envelope itself by user adjustment of the LDR (Light Dependent Resistor) speed, creating a sound character The result is a sound character that cannot be reproduced by conventional hardware opto-compressors.
Once you try it, you will be captivated by this red beauty.
