Notable mix engineers such as Dave Pensado, Bob Horn, and Jack Douglas use the high-end Black Box Analog Design HG-2 tube processor in their mixes.
The emulation of sweet tubes and creamy-sounding transformers not only makes tracks sound richer and fuller, but also louder, louder, and punchier at the same peak levels.

The HG-2 emulates four different tube stages in series and parallel circuits to add rich and varied overtones to a mix or individual tracks. 6U8A pentode and triode emulated independent gain controls are placed in series between the plug-in inputs and the buttery virtual transformers that warm the outputs. The Density control can then be adjusted to drive both tubes harder, fatter, and heavier without changing their relative balance or the plug-in's output level. The Calibration menu emulates the effect of the original hardware's internal trim adjustment, instantly altering the HG-2's high-frequency response and creating three different colorings: Dark/Normal/Bright.

Punch and softness
Whether it's vocals, strings, piano, or a full mix, you can control how much of the "magic dust" is applied by adding the Air knob, and turning down the Mix control adds a dry signal to the plug-in outputs, giving the HG-2's When the Mix control is turned down, a dry signal is added to the plug-in output, and the beautiful tube softness and luster of the HG-2 combines with the full detail and punch of the mix.
