A compressor with parallel dual-tube circuitry created from an ingenious analog design


When SPL released the IRON mastering compressor, it quickly became an icon. Their goal was to create a model that would deliver a pleasing melodic sound and transparent compression inspired by vintage compressors of the radio era.
They also wanted it to be versatile enough to adapt perfectly to the needs of modern mastering studios.
The result is a 25-pound, 4RU tube compressor that has quickly become a hit at top mastering studios around the world.

21st Century Innovation Inspired by Classic Vacuum Tubes
IRON takes the sound quality of legendary vintage tube compressors and sets a new benchmark by adding modern innovations such as parallel dual tube circuitry, flexible attack and release settings, and high dynamic 120V operating voltage.
Unlike traditional Vari-Mu designs that use a single tube for compression, IRON employs a unique dual circuit topology: 12AX7/ECC83 and 12AU7/ECC82, two tubes with slightly different compression curves and feel, respectively. The signal is split between the two tubes and a specially designed Mu-Metal iron transformer. The two compression circuits operate in parallel and can be reconfigured to your liking, providing a unique and flexible approach to tube compression.

Control performance far superior to vintage Vari-Mu compressors.
IRON features a sidechain filter, and the Attack and Release parameters can be set in six increments from Slow to Fast. These times vary depending on the selected Rectifier circuit; each of the six different Rectifier settings uses a different combination of diodes, germanium, silicon, LED, and mixed to provide even more tonal variations.
Thus, IRON can be used not only in the mastering field, but also for subwoofer processing. It can also be used to process subgroups or individual signals such as vocals, bass, guitar, strings, etc.

SPL Iron is a plug-in based on Brainworx's patented TMT (Tolerance Modeling Technology) technology, TMT by providing multiple plug-in channels with realistic analog tolerances for circuit modeling components, TMT provides the most realistic analog sound in the box.
In addition, digital-specific features such as monomaker, stereo width, and MS Processing make this plug-in even more powerful than the original.
