Optical & Discrete Two-Stage Compression for Unprecedented Dynamics Control
One of the key advantages of the Shadow Hills Mastering Compressor is its ability to process signals with dual-stage compression. The optical section has traditional threshold and gain settings, with a two-stage release time similar to that found on the LA-2A. This is used to easily shape the dynamic range and raise the overall level.
Next, the VCA Discrete section gives you more precise control over ratio, attack, and release settings, allowing you to fine-tune the compression response to suit a wide variety of materials.

Switchable output transformers for greater sonic variation
Three unique output transformers make it easy to build additional tonal character.
Choose from Steel, Nickel, or Iron to add the distinctive flavor often found in legendary consoles.
Nickel offers smooth lows and a refined top end, perfect for more subtle recordings.
Iron is more colorful, but maintains the high end and provides a slight boost to the low end in the 100Hz range. This transformer leaves a very musical sound.
Finally, the Steel transformer has a very fine and fast response, providing a fine boost in the 40Hz range and helping to achieve a rocking low end.
