The legendary metal amp that changed the world of guitar amplifiers
In 1994, Peter Diezel, not satisfied with the tone he was getting from other amps, created the Diezel VH4 amp to create his perfect sound. As word spread, the VH4 quickly established itself as the must-have amp for serious guitarists and was installed in the rigs of legends such as Metallica, Tool, Journey, and many others.
When the VH4 was first released, it was a truly revolutionary design, offering extremely flexible and user-friendly features. To this day, the Diezel VH4 holds its own.
The heart of the VH4 consists of a 100-watt output section and four distinct preamp channels, offering everything from ultra-clean tones to heavily distorted madness.
The four channels (Clean, Crunch, Mega, and Lead) are filled with unmatched tone and clarity. At low gain settings, you can easily play with the sparkling sheen of the now-classic Diezel. But as you turn up the gain, the Clean channel enters a more aggressive zone.
Channel 1 (Clean)
This channel was created to provide a pristine clean sound rich in overtones and power. Setting the gain control a third higher produces a milder, warmer tone. The tone is a cross between a Fender Twin and a Hiwatt 100, but with a smoother dynamic response.
Channel 2 (Crunch)
This channel is for those who enjoy blues. This channel shows its true value in the low frequency range. The difference in voicing makes the tone a little softer than Channel 1 in clean mode, and closer to Channel 3 in high-gain mode.
Channel 3 (Distortion)
A heavy metal player's dream, this channel is essential for tight rhythm sections. When compression is applied, this channel's tone has a narrower dynamic range, especially in the lower frequencies. This small loss is compensated for by feedback, which adds thick low-end without polluting the midrange. You can control the lows more precisely with the “Deep” knob in the master section, and Channel 3's gain configuration is designed to deliver an excellent distortion sound even with low-powered guitars. You can start the gain at 12 o'clock and shape the tone from there.
Channel 4 (Ultra High Gain)
This channel has a stronger midrange than Channel 3 and produces beautiful lead tones. This channel helps you cut through the band and create your own sound space. Set the gain to 1 o'clock for a burst of high-gain distortion. This volume control helps match the volume of the other channels.
More Digital Power
Brainworx takes it a step further with the addition of an FX rack that includes a noise gate, a switchable high-pass/low-pass filter, and a Power Soak circuit for easy adjustment of overdrive without increasing output gain.
Another great feature available only in the plug-in version is the 100+ recording chain (Impulse Responses) derived from a number of famous cabinets and Brainworx's vintage Neve console, vintage microphones, and outboard equipment, all of which are instantly “recordable” tones.
Don't let this beast of an amp sleep, try it out on your DAW today!
