Heavily used during the heyday of classical rock, this heavyweight instrument, weighing approximately 160 kg, revolutionized the way music was produced until then. It could be said to be the origin of today's sampled sound sources, as it incorporates multiple tape machines that are arranged in an orderly fashion and playback sounds recorded one note at a time using keyboard operation. Because tape was used, the length of each note was limited to a maximum of eight seconds. However, because each keyboard was equipped with its tape machine, the full polyphonic, multi-timbral engine was revolutionary at the time. The Beatles' hit song "Strawberry Fields Forever" made the instrument a household name, followed by The Moody Blues, Rolling Stones, and progressive rock legend Yes, among many others. Mello has been used by many bands and songs, including the legendary Yes, and has become a must-have for creating the sound of the 60's.

Mello has taken on the challenge of fully recreating the charm of this historic instrument as a software sound source. Three machines were set up for this task, and numerous original tape tones were painstakingly multi-sampled. All sounds were played on all three machines to obtain the best results from the collected samples. The 28 tones thus completed all contain noises caused by keyboard operation and internal structure, and they are so lifelike that it is almost as if you are playing the actual machine. These mechanical noises are recorded in stereo, and key-off and tape noises are also provided and can be mixed to your liking. It also incorporates a reverb, just like the original hardware.
