ART/Precision Phono Pre U is a phono equalizer amplifier for MC and MM cartridges.
Phono equalizer amplifier for MC and MM cartridges
Product Overview
This amplifier allows a record player that does not have a phono equalizer to be connected to a recording system, etc. It is compatible with both MC (Moving Coil) and MM (Moving Magnet) type cartridges.
Compatible with both MC and MM cartridges
The input can be switched between MC and MM types, and the gain and cartridge load can be changed to match the cartridge. In addition, the load resistance of the MC-type cartridge can be set to 100Ω or 25Ω. In addition, the GAIN TRIM control can be used to optimize the output for each cartridge.
■Eliminates excess noise
The low-noise amplifier circuitry eliminates noise and distortion caused by the step-up transformer. In addition, a low-cut filter can be used to remove excess subsonic components caused by record players without sacrificing sound quality.
Features
High-performance, low-noise phono equalizer amplifier.
It can be connected to various audio systems with record players.
Compatible with both MC and MM cartridges.
A low-cut filter eliminates subsonic components.
Adjustable preamp gain.
Clip indicator incorporated.
External power supply for low noise.
Why a phono equalizer amplifier is necessary when playing analog records
1. low and mid-high frequencies cannot be reproduced equally, so it is necessary to compensate for low frequencies during playback. 2.
2. records have a certain amount of hiss noise, and to counteract this, post-production work is performed to boost the gain of the high-frequency range before pressing. Therefore, the opposite equalization is necessary during playback. 3.
In the mid-1950s, the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) established compensation standards. As a result, RIAA phono equalizers were incorporated into all hi-fi stereo amplifiers from this time forward, and phono inputs were included. If a record player is connected to a mixer without a phono equalizer, a separate phono equalizer amplifier is required. 4.
MC cartridges are generally low impedance and low output (about 0.2mV). Most operate best with a load resistance of 24 to 100 ohms, and this resistance value determines the cartridge's sound. 5.
5. some MC cartridges have a "high output" type with a load resistance of 47kΩ and an output of about 2mV. This unit should accommodate this by setting INPUT TYPE to Moving Magnet and using GAIN TRIM to make a gain correction of 6 to 8 dB.
