Saturate's two controls are advanced signal processing engines that allow you to overdrive the signal without affecting the tone balance, no matter how hard you push. Even with up to 24 dB of overdrive, the sound will never become muddy or muffled.

■The Science of Saturate
Any audio signal can be broken down into a number of sine waves of different frequencies. When that signal is overdriven, the high amplitude low frequencies can push out the mid and high frequencies to which the ear is sensitive. As a result, an overdriven signal can sound oversaturated or blurred, with fine detail lost. This is because when the low frequencies are at the top and bottom of the swing, the low amplitude sine waves of the mid and high frequencies are removed by the saturator. This causes a shift in tonal balance that depends on the frequency content of the signal.

Saturate uses a unique Spectral Clipper technology to reintroduce this fine detail to the saturated signal. The signal is saturated based on the curve, but the different frequency sine waves are processed independently. This means that the significant low frequencies do not overwhelm the acceptable frequencies, and the tonal balance at the output is the same as at the input, with only harmonics added.

Saturate also employs a very efficient anti-aliasing scheme that eliminates aliasing artifacts and very high oversampling at a fraction of the CPU resources.
