MODFX is a compact 8HP effect module with a powerful stereo DSP. All parameters have their own dedicated knobs for intuitive operation. Three bank buttons each have eight programs for a total of 24 effects.
Each module's 24 effects are the latest programs and programs carefully selected from the library of hundreds of effects developed over the past decade for Tiptop's classic Z-DSP module. Effect algorithms play an important role in processing the sound, but controlling the DSP with an analog clock circuit gives the sound a richness and warmth that is characteristic of analog. MODFX has high performance to create great sounds that are not available in existing products.
MODFX has three banks of modulation effects, from classic effects inspired by stompboxes and rack effects to experimental processing not available in other hardware. The strength of this module is that it can creatively transform static mono sources into a wide stereo sound field.
The CHORUS bank features essential effects for electronic music production. Classic synthesizers like the Solina and Juno series featured chorus effects. Chorus is a subtle process that widens and deepens sound sources, but you may not notice it until you turn it off. These eight programs include more advanced options, especially in combination with the Fidelity control, which can create shimmering ambiences or deep detuned sounds.
The flanger sounds in the FLANGER bank achieve their effect by modulating a very short delay time. This bank also includes Karplus and resonant pitch effects, as well as panning using the Haas effect*. Programs like Chord Resonator can turn percussive tracks into harmonic material, while Haas panning creates a wide stereo spread without using pitch or amplitude modulation.
The FILTER bank does not offer the high-pass or low-pass options common in synths, but instead offers highly modulated and unusual filtering options. Programs include a vintage-style all-pass filter-based phaser, filter-based panning, and vocal formant options.
*Haas effect
""The Haas effect (also known as the precedence effect) is a phenomenon in which, when the same sound is heard from two different places, the ear automatically recognizes the sound source as being from the one that was heard first. However, the Haas effect does not occur when the arrival time difference exceeds about 0.04 seconds or when the difference in volume is different."" From Wikipedia Haas effect
