Make Noise / Mimeophon

The Mimeophone morphs between five modes to create a variety of stereo echo delays.

The Microphone is a stereo audio repeater that emulates any spectral response. It produces many echo/delay sounds, from the oil can echoes, warm BBDs, midrange crunch BBDs, tape echoes, crisp, clean delays, and hot-burning early digital delay lines. soundtrack programmer Tom Erbe was responsible for the coding, resulting in a collaboration between Make Noise and the soundtrack.

The name Mimeophon (from the Greek words mimeo (repeat/copy) and phone (sound)) is derived from various historical copying devices, most notably the "Mimeograph," a machine invented by Thomas Edison in the late 19th century to make large numbers of copies of printed material. Many visual artists in the 20th century used such machines to create repetitive composition visual collage style works, known as Xerox or copy art. The Mimeophon opens up similar possibilities in music. It can modulate and morph the time scale of repeating sounds, from very short micro-sounds to phrase lengths, and it can also color and spatialize repeating sounds.
