Mercury Audio/M76m/1 - MK IV is a studio microphone preamp based on the Telefunken/Siemens V76m, one of the popular vintage amplifier modules. This is a 1CH model.
The new Mercury M76m Mk.IV is the latest version of our benchmark studio microphone amplifier.
The M76m is based on one of the most popular vintage amplifier modules, the Telefunken/Siemens V76m. These modules were used in European broadcasting and recording studios in the late 1950s and 60s. Later, even after vacuum tube consoles were phased out and replaced by transistorized discrete consoles, the V76 module lived on and was used in studios around the world as an outboard microphone amplifier.
The M76m's gain control is 0-+60dB (in 6dB increments) and works in conjunction with the level control and output attenuator. The ""Level"" knob acts as a fader and adjusts the amount of gain from the first to second stages of the amplifier. By lowering ""Level"" and raising ""Course"", you can add a vacuum tube ""break-up tone"". The final stage also has an additional (-0 to -10dB) for various tone shaping settings. An impedance select switch has also been added, giving the unit all the features you would expect from a modern device. It is equipped with phantom power (on/off), phase (polarity) inversion, and an amazing F.D.I. (FET Direct Input) circuit.
Superb FDI
Developed by Mercury, the FDI (FET Direct Input) is a unique J-Fet circuit based on Class A vacuum tube topology.
The Mercury FDI is designed to reproduce every nuance of direct recording, allowing the circuit to determine the overall tone depending on the characteristics of the amplifier's vacuum tube or solid state. The instrument DI signal is sent to the entire mic preamp circuit, including the Mercury custom input transformer, allowing each preamp's individuality to shine through.
