Our Next-Generation Converters
Dangerous Music has developed a variety of award-winning products with built-in converters, including the digital-to-analog converter (DAC) installed in the Monitor manufactured in 2002. After receiving many requests for a standalone DAC for many years, we have finally completed the CONVERT series.
In order to develop a new and better quality DAC, we designed the CONVERT-2 from scratch, combining cutting-edge digital technology with analog circuits designed by Chris Muth, which create DANGEROUS MUSIC's signature sound - open, expressive, and powerful from high to low. As a dedicated digital-to-analog converter, it is optimized to provide great sound for mixing, mastering, and monitoring during tracking. The CONVERT-2 not only provides transparency, but also beautifully expresses the entire sound.

It's All About Implementation
In theory, all converters should be the same, but for those who truly understand this world of hotly debated and endless research in audio technology, the mantra is just to do, do, do. How to select the converter's components, tweak and assemble them according to a specific design, and tune them to get the best performance within that plan. This is what makes a converter ""good"" or ""bad"". The CONVERT-2 was developed by a team of experts with deep, ever-changing knowledge of digital and analog converter technology.

Perfecting The Digital Side
To ensure that the digital side of the CONVERT series was perfectly matched to the finely tuned analog circuitry, we enlisted the digital guru Paul Messick to help us develop the CONVERT series. Paul rigorously refined the converter's JetPLL, ultra-low jitter clock technology, to exceed the specs set by JET. The result was the virtual elimination of jitter over the entire audio band. Finally, the sonic ""headaches"" were gone, and the fatigue of long-term exposure to jittery digital audio systems started to set in. The CONVERT series' top-notch digital technology delivers a natural, open sound that makes you forget you're listening to digitally converted audio.

Detailed Information & Delightful Inspiration
More than just transparency and accuracy, the sound of the CONVERT-2 is very open and three-dimensional, and many people say it is the most beautiful, natural sounding converter they have ever heard. Whether you are tracking, mixing, or mastering, choosing a dedicated stereo DAC is actually choosing a unit that you can trust to make all your decisions. Your DAC needs to be honest and straightforward, but it also needs to reproduce beautiful sound. The CONVERT-2 achieves this mysterious combination of not only providing more detail but also inspiring you at the same time.

The CONVERT-2 not only ensures that you hear the best possible sound for monitoring, but you can also use it in combination with an analog summing mixer or your favorite console to record that great sound as an analog signal at the end of the mix.

Dedicated Volume Control With Hard-Bypass -
Turn the knob when you need to lower the output level of the CONVERT-2. When the volume control is at maximum, the output control function is bypassed, so you can send the signal to a dedicated monitor controller (such as the Monitor ST) and control it there. Otherwise, the volume control provides precise output level control in many situations. A convenient use is to send the analog output directly to a speaker and use the CONVERT-2 as a monitor controller.

Instant Input Calibration -
The industry standard reference levels are -14, -16 and -18dBFS, but you can recalibrate the CONVERT-2 with the push of a button. While many professional converters are only calibrated at the manufacturer, the CONVERT series can be changed to different reference levels on the fly. If you've ever had to fiddle around behind a rack with a special tool to make fine adjustments while another person watches the external meter, you'll know why the front panel calibration button is so valuable.

Automatic Sample Rate Detection -
To select the sample rate, simply press ""AUTO"" on the front panel and the CONVERT-2 will automatically match the input signal. If you've ever started working at the wrong sample rate (we've all done it), you know how important this feature is. Even if you switch between multiple DAW sessions with different sample rates, the CONVERT-2 will always match the sample rate of the input source.

On The Fly Input Switching -
A unique feature of the CONVERT series. Switch between multiple input sources on the fly with a front panel button. No more digging through complicated menus and system settings just to listen to iTunes. No more rerouting software drivers just to listen to a different output. The CONVERT automatically locks to the sample rate of the input signal, so you can choose your source by simply switching inputs.

Five selectable digital inputs are USB, AES/SPDIF-1, AES/SPDIF-2, ADAT and Optical SPDIF (TOSLINK).

Custom Metering -
CONVERT-2's high-quality digital meter section displays only peak, over and average, as is often found on expensive outboard mastering meters. It automatically adjusts to the reference level of the selected input, providing consistent visual information for all projects.

The ""3-word-over"" indicator warns you if three consecutive samples clip. This generally indicates that you are one step away from exceeding the standard for CD production, and lets you know when clipping distortion is about to occur.
