Acme Audio's microphone preamp. Reproduces the tone of a Motown guitar amp. The all-tube preamp can handle anything from instruments to line levels. You can also freely adjust the drive and compression.
In 1966, Motown's young and ambitious chief engineer was tasked by legendary producer Berry Gordy to design a better way to record multiple guitars and basses at once with minimal bleed and no separation between them. The result was the 5-channel Motown box. This circuit, later named the Motown guitar amp, was used by James Jamerson, Dennis Coffey, Bob Babbit, Robert White, Joe Messina and others to perform brilliantly from 1966 to 1972. Now, you can get all the essential tones of this Motown guitar amp with the MTP-66 Motown Tube Preamp. The latest in Acme Audio's faithful recreations of Motown gear, this single-channel preamp has been closely replicated based on the original 1966 circuit diagram. In addition to being an all-tube preamp that can handle anything from instruments to line levels, Acme Audio has added a microphone amp section based on Motown's original design with a Triad input transformer.
The input and output controls, which were not available on the original, allow you to freely adjust the drive and compression.
