56 Kabuki and Noh Percussion Instruments in Software Sound Source

The emotional and gorgeous Kabuki stage. The mysterious and beautiful world of Noh. The echoing sound of the Yagi drum. This is the true beauty of Japan.

Kabuki & Noh Percussion contains 56 percussion instruments used in Kabuki and Noh as a library exclusively for BFD3/2. Compatible with BFD3/2 and BFD Eco, it can be used with the full specs, including up to 99 velocity layers in 24 bits, dedicated presets, kits, and grooves, in BFD3/2.

The drums, o-tsuzumi, and shime-daiko drums, as well as the noh flutes and callees (ya-goe and ha-goe) are essential to the music of Kabuki and Noh. This collection includes percussion instruments essential to livening up a Kabuki stage, such as the odaiko, daibyoshi, okedo, mame-daiko, uchiwa-daiko, atari-gane, kon-chiki, soban, ekiji, music boxes, hon-tsurigane, gongs, and mokugyo. It also includes rare instruments such as ashi-boshi and tsuke-uchi, which add excitement to the performance.

Performed by Japanese percussionist Mochizuki Taikinojo. His diverse expressiveness and precise instrument control produce a variety of fresh percussion sounds. This collection is packed with ""that sound"" you've been longing for.

Taikinojo Mochizuki (Japanese percussionist)
Takinojo Mochizuki specializes in the performance of traditional Japanese percussion instruments, such as the kotsuzumi drum and taiko drum. Through his wide-ranging performance activities, from kabuki music to contemporary music, he explores the possibilities of Japanese music and percussion instruments as folk music.

The expressive power of the kozutsumi, realized for the first time
20150318_fxpansion_kbn_kozutsumi The kozutsumi drum is known for its distinctive ""pon"" sound, but it also boasts a wide range of expressive power. In addition to the ""pon-pu-chi-ta-pe"" sounds, you can also control subtle portamento by adjusting the grip of the tuning rod.

Reproduce the famous ""hyu-dorodoro"" sound
20150318_fxpansion_kbn_hyu-dorodoro This large drum expresses the sounds of wind, snow, water, and even the scenery, nature, and even the emotions of the characters. The famous ""hyudorodoro"" sound, which represents the appearance of a ghost, is also included. Recordings using long drumsticks and snow drums allow for the reproduction of almost any taiko drumming expression.

Kabuki's ""Flat Flap"" and ""Don""
Includes the flapping ""tsukeuchi"" sounds used by actors to show off, as well as the ""don"" sound of stomping across the stage.

*Hall recording. Sounds essential to the hall ambience, such as tsukeuchi, foot beats, and bachi, were recorded here.

Noh flute phrases and calls
20150318_fxpansion_kbn_man This includes numerous Noh flute phrases such as hishigi and ashirai, as well as the hayashi musicians' ""ya-goe"" and ""ha-goe"" (iyo, ho, etc.), which are essential to the nagauta (long songs) used in Noh and Kabuki. (27 types/148 sounds)

A wealth of rare instruments
This collection includes rare instruments used in Kabuki, such as the ekiro (a traditional Japanese musical instrument), music box, matsumushi (a traditional Japanese bell), fuse gong (a traditional Japanese bell), and hon-tsurigane (a traditional Japanese bell).

Precise velocity layering
Perfect expression with as many as 99 velocity layers.

Alternate recording of right and left hands
20150318_fxpansion_kbn_hit Instruments played with both hands are recorded separately for the right and left hands, allowing for incredibly natural dynamics. Even rapid hits sound incredibly natural.

No unnecessary room ambience
The recording took place in a room with zero reverberation, similar to the black blinds behind which Kabuki instruments are played on the stage left side. Since the original sound of the instruments is not compromised, reverb can be added depending on the situation.

High-quality microphones and microphone preamps
20150318_fxpansion_kbn_Neve5315To capture the authentic sound of Japanese instruments, we used well-maintained condenser microphones such as the Neuman U47, U67, and Korby KAT67, as well as ribbon microphones such as the RCA 44BX and 77DX. A Neve 5315 vintage console was used for the microphone amplifiers.
