Popular during the heyday of classic rock, this heavyweight instrument, weighing approximately 160 kg, revolutionized music production methods. Equipped with multiple, neatly arranged tape machines, it recorded individual notes and played them back via keyboard operation, making it the origin of modern sampling sound sources. Because of the use of tape, sound length was limited to a maximum of eight seconds per note. However, with a tape machine for each keyboard, the fully polyphonic, multitimbral engine was revolutionary at the time. It was the Beatles' hit song ""Strawberry Fields Forever"" that made this instrument famous. It went on to be used by many bands and songs, including The Moody Blues, the Rolling Stones, and progressive rock legends Yes, becoming a must-have for creating the 1960s sound.

Mello has attempted to perfectly recreate the allure of this historic instrument as a software instrument. For this task, we used three machines to meticulously multi-sample numerous original tape sounds. Every sound was played on three machines, and the best results were selected from the collected samples. The resulting 28 sounds each capture the authenticity of the original instruments, capturing the sounds of key operation and internal mechanical noise. These mechanical noises were recorded in stereo, and key-off and tape noise were also provided, allowing you to mix them to your liking. Like the original hardware, the unit also features reverb.
