Abbey Road Studios is reproducing this historic vacuum tube variable-mu compressor.

Abbey Road Studios in the UK, in collaboration with Chandler Limited, has officially reissued the historic RS124 compressor for the first time.
The RS124 was developed by EMI engineers at the time, who independently modified the ALTEC 436 to create a new compressor, and was used on The Beatles' recordings in the 1960s.
The RS124 is an official piece of hardware equipment from EMI and ABBEY ROAD STUDIO.

The RS124 vacuum tube variable-mu compressor, which was used in The Beatles' recordings in the 1960s, has been officially reissued for the first time in over 50 years. The RS124 was developed as a new compressor by EMI engineers at the time, independently improving the ALTEC 436. It was used on most recordings made at Abbey Road Studios in the UK in the 1960s and 1970s.
Chandler Limited, the world's only company in partnership with Abbey Road Studios, thoroughly researched several existing units, as well as handwritten notes and circuit diagrams from the time, to perfectly recreate the individual sonic differences of these historic machines. It also improved functionality, such as variable attack, while retaining the vintage sound, making it easier to use in modern recording environments.
Following the release of the REDD.47 Pre Amp, the RS124 has been reissued, making it extremely valuable as it allows the historic rock sounds of bands like The Beatles and Pink Floyd to be reproduced again with the original hardware, rather than with artificial plug-ins. RS124 is official hardware equipment from EMI and ABBEY ROAD STUDIO.
