The TG2 microphone preamp, jointly reproduced and developed by Abbey Road Studios and CHANDLER LIMITED, is an outboard gear unit that accurately recreates the head amplifier of the TG console developed by EMI Records in the UK from 1968 through the 1970s.

The TG console, which produced many masterpieces, including The Beatles, the solo works of each member, and Pink Floyd, is a symbol of the history of rock sound.

Mechanical tuning that counters microphonic noise not only fully captures the allure of the original TG2 sound, but also features a Fat Sound Mode directly from the manufacturer. This special version retains the legendary original sound of Abbey Road Studios in the UK since 1968, while incorporating new sound options directly from the manufacturer. TG2 (BACK TO BASICS) Technical Description

As its name suggests, the Chandler TG2 is a reproduction of the microphone preamps from Abbey Road Studios' TG console. It features transformer inputs and outputs and an all-discrete design, a vintage design. The internal wiring also reveals its meticulous, handmade construction.

Testing the TG2 revealed some interesting features. The frequency response changes with the gain. As the gain increases, the low frequencies are rolled off, concentrating energy in the midrange. A more aggressive setting results in a more manageable harmonic structure, which could be said to define the TG's unique sound character.

However, depending on the sound direction desired, a flatter response may be desired. If the frequency response remained constant even with increased gain while maintaining the TG2's sound character, the TG2 could become even more versatile! With this in mind, we consulted with Chandler Limited, who offered to teach customization methods for any user. We received modification advice from the manufacturer's design team. A key feature was replacing the capacitors in the first amplifier stage with larger ones. When we tried this, the graph clearly showed that even at high gain, the low frequencies did not roll off, and we were able to achieve a flatter frequency response while maintaining the TG2 sound.
