This shotgun microphone capsule is compatible with the Zoom H5/H6 handy recorder and Q8 video recorder. It's roughly half the size of a typical shotgun microphone with comparable performance.

This ultra-directional microphone suppresses ambient noise and captures targeted sounds clearly and precisely. It makes the H6 the perfect audio recorder for professional audio recording, including film, video, theater, and news coverage.

Three microphones within the capsule and the H6's advanced DSP processing technology allow the SGH-6 to maintain its sharp directional characteristics and excellent frequency response while remaining approximately half the length of a typical shotgun microphone with a physical acoustic tube.

Shotgun microphones are often used for videotaping speeches. For example, they are useful when a lapel microphone is not available for the speaker, or when you want to capture the speaker's voice from behind the video camera. However, please note that shotgun microphones cannot function like a camera's telephoto lens. While they work well when the sound source is close by, the recorded sound will appear distant if the sound source is more than approximately one meter away. As the distance increases, the ambience component increases, so the key to getting good sound is to record from a position that is not too far from the sound source.
