A multi-function tool with four modes
■DS Mode (Set the Bypass Button to IN, all other buttons to OUT)
Operates as a de-esser. It controls the S-tone (sibilance) in vocal sounds to achieve a clean, aggressive vocal sound. In standard DS mode, you can precisely treat unnatural vocal sibilance by adjusting the frequency between 2-6 kHz and applying a threshold. DS mode is also useful for solving difficult problems, such as hi-hat bleed into the snare microphone.

Unlike a typical de-esser, DS Mode's dynamic action is independent of input level. In this mode, the input signal is split into high and low frequency bands, and the levels are compared to determine the amount of reduction. When the high frequency level exceeds the low frequency level, frequencies above the crossover point set by the Frequency setting are reduced. In other words, the high frequency threshold value changes depending on the low frequency level.
Because it controls the difference between high and low frequency levels, it allows for precise sound treatment even at low levels that would not respond with conventional methods.

Using the latest VCA technology, it achieves noiseless, distortion-free performance.

■HF Limit (Set Bypass Button and HF LIM to IN, other buttons to OUT)
DerrEsser's HF LIMIT mode can treat the harshness (spikes and edges) of high frequencies common in digital sounds without losing any sense of air. It also reproduces the high-frequency saturation (tape compression) that is characteristic of recordings made to analog tape.

While this HF Limit is a standard level detection type, DerrEsser detects only the high-frequency level. It is essentially a high-frequency-only limiter. This mode is designed to react to high frequencies and smoothly color them. Of course, de-essing can also be performed in this mode. The soft-knee HF Limiter is a major attraction of this unit.

■Highpass (Bypass Button and Listen set to IN, HP/LP set to OUT, HF LIM Button in either position)
The ""Listen"" function allows the user to listen only to the high-frequency components controlled by the dynamics/compression circuit. The frequency can be adjusted with the FREQ knob.

■Lowpass
(Bypass Button, Listen, and HP/LP set to IN, HF LIM Button in either position)
This button setting allows you to listen to the low frequencies that are not affected by the VCA and dynamics/compression circuit. This is a 12dB/per octave filter.
