""Fairchild 660/Altec 436 type TG Limiter/Compressor""
Wade Goeke and EMI have reissued the TG12413, a classic that has supported the British sound throughout history, as a model for Abbey Road Studios' 75th anniversary. It's the sound that The Beatles and Pink Floyd experienced in the control room and captured on vinyl.
EMI/Abbey Road Studios began developing the RS114 vacuum tube limiter using their own technology around 1956, and in 1966 they completed the first RS168 Zener Limiter, followed by the strip type limiter for the TG console, which can be considered the culmination of their work. The original TG LIMITER was developed to recreate the Fairchild 660's Limit mode and the Altec 436/RS124's Comp 1 mode in a single unit.
This newly reissued TG12413 ZENER LIMITER combines elements of previous EMI compressors, including the EMI RS168, TG12345 console strip, and TG12414, and was perfected through meticulous and rigorous sound checks by engineers with intimate knowledge of the TG sound, including Abbey Road's Peter Cobbin.
During this development, Wade Gauk incorporated numerous new and powerful features into the ZENER LIMITER, ensuring the ultimate in EMI/Abbey Road vintage sound can be used flexibly and versatility in modern recording environments. The result is a high-end limiter (compressor) that is so powerful and versatile it's hard to imagine another more versatile and powerful limiter (compressor) for any application.
■ Three modes: LIMITER, COMP1 (Fast), and COMP2 (Slow), providing a wide range of functionality to suit any application.
■ Input impedance switching function: 300/1200, +6/+12dB input circuit adjustment. Flexible limiting from soft to hard.
■ THD mode: Adds 2% THD (harmonics) to the sound (limiter bypass).
■ Hardwire bypass and stereo link.
■ Attack - 11 positions, Release - 21 positions, Input & Output - 21 positions. Perfect setting recall.
■ Professional use, from recording studios to mastering.
